In what have seemed like an eternity, the Climax of the 2022 Peoples Democratic Party, PDP primaries to determine who bears the party flag in the Delta Central Senatorial District 2023 Elections is upon us and the journey has not been uninteresting.
For months, several names have popped up on various lips in Delta about who would step up to replace Senator Ovie Omo-Agege as the next Delta Central Senator. A glorified position with its bar raised higher by the outstanding performance of Omo-Agege, it didn’t come as a surprise that not many stuck their foot out to step into the shoes of the Orogun Native except two Ethiope West Gladiators and Political ever presents, Chief Ighoyota Amori from Mosogar Kingdom, and Chief John Obukohwo Nani from Idjerhe Kingdom.
Two juggernauts in the game with an impressive CV to boot, there is no way you can discuss politics in Delta State without factoring Chief Amori into the fore and in recent memory, Chief Nani has burst onto the scene and has emerged as a prominent leader in Ethiope West and Delta State.
The agenda is that of making Urhobo great and these two custodians hold the interest of the Urhobo Nation at heart.
It is pulsating to note that social media has been set alight by followers of these neighbors with arguments, conversations taking Center stage as to who would carry the day.
It is also not surprising that no one else was ready to step up to these two as it might have seem like an effort in futility giving the antecedents and political history of the two Ethiope West Leaders.
Both men have held key positions and represented their people at various levels in government, so there is no shortage of experience when discussing them as well.
With Monday 23rd May 2022 looming, the onus is on delegates to decide and that task might prove a tall order because of the aspirants involved.
Whether you like it or not, a winner must emerge on Saturday but the one take away is that after all said and done, Delta Central PDP will not be projecting a mediocre but a well grounded, deeply rooted and above all a custodian of the Urhobo Nation to the 2023 polls.
