Gunmen have reportedly attacked Army personnel and killed four of them in Asamokwu village, Ndokwa East Local Government Area of Delta State.

Newsmen gathered that the incident which happened on Thursday has caused tension in the community.

Sources told the newsmen that the gunmen ambushed the soldiers and killed three on the spot, while others who sustained injuries were rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba.

One of the sources said, “The hoodlums ambushed the Army personnel and killed three of them while others were rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba.

“One of the injured soldiers died at the FMC. As I speak, the community is on fire, soldiers are everywhere now.

“The traditional ruler of the village was also beheaded in the crisis, and residents have deserted the area.”

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, confirmed that the traditional ruler was beheaded.

“The crisis is between two communities in the local government area but I don’t know the cause yet.

“I can confirm that the king was beheaded but I cannot confirm the killing of the Army personnel,” he said.

Also contacted, the Army Public Relations Officer, 63 Brigade, Asaba, Major Y.N. Cabara, promised to find out what happened and revert.

He had yet to do so as of the time of filing this report on Thursday.
