Chief Great Ogboru, 2019 governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, says he has not defected from the party.
The social media on Tuesday was agog with the news of Ogboru dumping the APC with his supporters and some leaders of the party in the Delta.
The former governorship candidate was alleged to have defected to the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) after a meeting with Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso.
Kwankwaso and some leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday joined the NNPP.
It was gathered that NNPP has agreed to make Kwankwaso and Ogboru national leaders of the party ahead of the 2023 general elections.
Sources close to the deal revealed that Kwankwaso and Ogboru are being considered for the party’s presidential candidate and running mate in 2023.
Prior to Ogboru’s alleged defection, there had been cold-war between him and the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege.
Ogboru and Olorogun Festus Keyamo (SAN) lost the structure of the newly constituted Delta APC to Senator Omo-Agege, who is the leader of the party in the South-South.
But reacting to the development, Chief Ogboru told NIGER DELTA TODAY that “I’m still a member of APC”
He added, “It’s rumour. I’m still in APC. If I am leaving APC, I will make it public. I’m still an authentic APC member. Just forget the rumour.”
