RE. DC23 TO PRUNE DOWN ASPIRANTS FROM DELTA CENTRAL .
Let me start by commending the leadership and members of DC23 for thier courage, doggedness and commitment to ensure strict compliance to the rotational policy of the People’s Democratic Party come 2023 , you have done well and will ever be in the good side of history anytime 2023 is mentioned in our political history as a people.
However the news of DC23 trying to prune down Governorship aspirants from Delta central in the guise of cohesion came to us as a shock and I want to on behalf of the entire members and leadership of Osu Governorship movement Express our stance on the issue .
You will recall that OGM on the 15th of May shortly after DC23 was founded Expressed thier fears on the motive and true intentions of the group and its ability to avoid the temptation of Imposing a premeditated aspirant on the people of Delta central, an allegation that was vehemently put to rest by its leadership’.
Recent events however seems to prove otherwise with the recent pronouncements by the leadership of the group to prune down numbers of Aspirants from Delta central.
It is pertinent to note that at the formation stage Deltans were made to understand that the purpose of DC23 is mainly to advocate for the strict adherence to the rotational policy of the PDP and nothing else.
May I respectfully also remind the group that it is on record that the group also assured Deltans when they adopt the acronym “Where Okowa go we go go” .it further buttress the point that they wont interfere in the emergence of a candidate from Delta central.
Perhaps it is also of extreme necessity to remind the group that the issue of zoning and pruning down aspirants from the affected senatorial district should best be handled by the Party and its leadership as any attempt for the group to foist their preferred candidate on our people through any means and device will not be in the best interest of the party or our people.
We at OSU also consider the move as a deliberate attempt to reduce the numbers of aspirants from Osu federal constituency in other to make it easier for a particular candidate to emerge .
We also want to remind the leadership of DC23 that right from the inception of Democracy there is no time a pressure group from any senatorial district in whatever guise has screened and reduced numbers of aspirants vying for the position of a Governor in the state .the best they can do is to play an advisory role which is lawful and also understandable.
Moreso the race leading to 2023 has not fully began as no aspirant has visited the party officially to declare thier intention to contest .It is therefore too early to start the pruning in the spirit of fairplay, equity. and Justice
It is also our candid opinion that we must give everybody the benefit of coming out with thier manifestos in order to avail Deltans the opportunity of making an informed choice of who to lead them before the issue of reducing aspirants will come to bare.
We are being painfully subjected to the belief been expressed earlier by the Osu Govenorshp Movement that DC23 might have been set up to play a script geared towards paving way for a premeditated and predetermined aspirant come 2023.
We also look at it as an attempt to hand twist, teleguide and reduce the options left to both His Exellency Senator Dr.Ifeanyi Okowa and the Party leadership to make decisions base on the wish and aspirations of Deltans as it relates to 2023.
It is base on this premise and assumptions I want to plead with our leaders in DC23 to rescind thier decision to prune down aspirants at this material point in time.
it is our firm conviction as a group that such roles should be left for the Party and its leadership .
We believe that the party is in a better position and well organised , well coordinated and capable of managing the issue aspirants and also taking decisions that will lead to victory and be of benefit to Deltans when the time comes.
We beleive that the strict compliance to the suggestions being put forward by us will erase every form of mutual suspicion, increase our level of integrity and create an environment of unity , trust and respect among us .
