Some time 6 years ago I was in Lagos practicing Journalism at a voluntary level (No salary).
As a news editor my boss urged me to learn how to edit videos, handle camera, broadcast and produce shows at his online news channel.
No money and I downtool but my mom urged me to return home to Sapele and Apply to teach at any Secondary School. A chance wedding of my friend brought me back home after all the immense pressure. I borrowed 3k from a friend named Carlos and my now wife then my girlfriend in Lagos gave me extra 3k to transport back home.
I came and my mom said i would not return to Lagos as it was hopeless. I had editing skills so I approached some online news outlets in Sapele so I could run a YouTube channel for them which they didn’t key into until my oldest brother Mr Akporero Richy Abraham gave me an idea to start my own since I could do it all. I took his advice and my mom gave me my first 5k to buy data and start in early 2020.
I tagged with my journalist friends in Sapele predominantly Mr Paul Olayemi of the Vanguard newspaper, Queen Stephanie Odiete of Sapele Mirror and Esada Uyono of Urhobo Voice and these 3 took me under their wings and kept linking me to new people. I wasn’t getting paid during assignments but I was persistent as my mom and my wife would fund my transport to events which I recorded with my phone, edited and posted for free.
Today that little brand is blossoming and 5 years Later i can only look back and reflect God’s Hand in my Life. RERO TV keeps growing because you people acknowledge what i do and supported my craft.
