A fuel loaded tanker has reportedly burst into flames at a filling station in Alapa town, Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State on Monday, Newspremises reports.

According to the spokesman of the Kwara State Fire Brigade, Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, the fire incident occurred at about 18:19hrs.

He said it occurred at MM filling station along Kaiama road in Alapa town, though no life was lost.

Adekunle said one Engineer Rasaq alerted the Kwara State Fire Service on the fire incident.

He said the blazing fire had engulfed the whole tanker due to the terrible nature of the incident when the firefighters arrived at the scene.

However, the firemen were able to put out the fire on time and also prevented the burning tanker from affecting the filling station in the vicinity area.

The accident, he stated, was caused by a mechanical fault in the petrol tanker.

Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, Director of the state fire service, advised the general public to be more careful.

He also urged fuel filling stations to procure all the necessary safety equipment at their various stations.
