Senator Ede Dafinone, who represents the Delta Central Senatorial District, has been honoured with a Distinguished Service Award in recognition of his contributions to the development of the Urhobo Nation and his dedication to public service.

The honour was presented by the Urhobo Catholic Community of St. John Mary Vianney Catholic Church during the Urhobo Cultural Day celebration held in December 2025 in Asaba, Delta State. The event also marked the formal welcome of Anthony Ovayero Ewherido, Bishop of the Asaba Region.

The celebration, themed “Urhobo: Our Culture, Our Pride,” brought together members of the Urhobo Catholic community and other guests to celebrate the cultural heritage of the Urhobo people.

Presenting the award, the organisers commended Senator Dafinone for his commitment to promoting the welfare of the Urhobo people and his efforts in attracting meaningful development projects to communities across the Delta Central Senatorial District.

In his remarks while receiving the honour, Senator Dafinone expressed appreciation to the Urhobo Catholic Community for the recognition, noting that the award strengthens his resolve to continue working for the progress and unity of the Urhobo Nation.

He also said he was humbled to be recognised alongside other distinguished honourees, including Bishop Ewherido, Author Akpowowo, Fred Majemite and Paul Evuarherhe, describing the recognition as both inspiring and a call to greater service.
