The Leadership of the Urhobo Progress Union, UPU the Apex Social Cultural Group in Urhobo Nation has expressed displeasure over the disturbing video of the brutal assault on Ms. Jennifer Elohor Edema, a daughter of Urhobo descent and serving member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Anambra State.
According to Reports, Ms. Edema was violently beaten, stripped naked, by members of the Agunechemba Vigilante Group in a viral and very disturbing video.
In a signed communique by the President General, Urhobo Progress Union, Olorogun Barr Ese Gam, the UPU condemned the barbaric and degrading treatment, describing the incident as a violation of Ms. Edema’s dignity as a woman and as a Corps Member, emphasising that it is not only an embarrassment to Anambra and Delta States but also an insult to the Urhobo people and a disgrace to Nigeria’s democracy.
The Apex Urhobo Social Cultural body also called on the Executive Governor of Anambra State, Soludo to act fast and make sure that the perpetrators of the heinous act are brought to book with immediate effect.
“As a body, we condemn this inhumane attack on our daughter as it is a clear violation of her human rights as a person. We will not relent on this matter as the perpetrators must be apprehended.
“The interest of every Urhobo sons and daughters is paramount to the UPU and we will not allow this matter to be swept under the rug.
” We call on the Governor of Anambra State, the Inspector General of Police to act immediately and bring the security people involved to book”. The Statement read.
