Senator Ede Dafinone, representing Delta Central Senatorial District, has called for a thorough and transparent investigation into the death of Adeda Ekwevugbe, a Deputy Director in the Delta State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education.
Dafinone, in a statement mourning the deceased, described Ekwevugbe’s death as “deeply troubling,” saying the circumstances surrounding the incident required a thorough, transparent and impartial investigation.
According to the senator, Ekwevugbe, who reportedly died following an incident at his workplace, was a dedicated public servant who went to work in service to the state.
Dafinone expressed condolences to the family of the deceased, particularly the Ekwevugbe family of Ughelli Kingdom, describing the death of the Urhobo public servant as heartbreaking.
He said, “As your Senator, I am deeply saddened by this tragedy, and I stand with you in this difficult hour.”
The senator acknowledged the steps taken by the Delta State Government under Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, including the constitution of an Administrative Panel of Inquiry to establish the circumstances surrounding Ekwevugbe’s death.
He also noted the ongoing investigation by the Delta State Police Command.
Dafinone appealed to residents of Ughelli Kingdom, the Urhobo nation, civil servants and other concerned Deltans to remain calm and allow the investigations to proceed without interference.
He stressed that while the demand for answers was legitimate, the investigative process should be allowed to establish the facts surrounding the incident.
The senator further called for accountability, saying there should be “no cover-up, no sacred cows” and no attempt to shield anyone who may be found culpable.
He urged investigators to follow the evidence wherever it leads and said anyone found responsible should face the full weight of the law.
“Justice for Mr. Adeda Ekwevugbe must not only be done; it must be seen to be done,” Dafinone said.
He added that he would continue to monitor developments and work with the state government, relevant authorities and security agencies to ensure that the circumstances surrounding the death are established.
Dafinone concluded by offering his condolences to Ekwevugbe’s family, friends, colleagues and the entire Ughelli Kingdom, praying for strength for the bereaved family and eternal rest for the deceased.
