Senator Ede Dafinone, who represents Delta Central Senatorial District in the Senate, has called on Nigerians to remain committed to democracy and support efforts aimed at strengthening the country’s democratic institutions and economic development.

In a statement issued on Friday to mark the 2026 Democracy Day celebration, Dafinone described June 12 as a historic symbol of the sacrifices, resilience and determination of Nigerians in the struggle for democratic governance, justice and national development.

The senator said June 12 remains a reminder of the power of the people’s will and the importance of preserving the democratic ideals for which many Nigerians fought and made sacrifices.

Reflecting on Nigeria’s democratic journey since 1999, Dafinone noted that the country has recorded steady progress despite economic and social challenges. He stated that democracy remains the best system of government because it promotes accountability, citizen participation and peaceful change.

The lawmaker acknowledged that Nigeria is facing economic difficulties but urged citizens to remain patient and supportive of ongoing reforms. He said the policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration are aimed at achieving economic stability, prosperity and sustainable development.

Dafinone urged Nigerians, especially residents of Delta Central Senatorial District, to actively participate in the democratic process through voting and civic engagement. He also encouraged eligible citizens to take advantage of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

The senator expressed appreciation to the people of Delta Central for their continued trust and support. He also commended their backing of the Delta State Government under Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, Dafinone called on residents of the district to remain united and politically engaged. He stressed the need for Delta Central to remain actively involved in national politics and development.

He maintained that continued support for the APC would help advance the interests of the district while contributing to Nigeria’s growth and prosperity. Dafinone concluded by wishing Nigerians a happy Democracy Day and reaffirmed his commitment to effective representation and national development.
