The Gabriel Sunano Foundation has expressed deep gratitude to all individuals and institutions who played vital roles in securing the safe release of the Sapele Local Government Council Chairman, Hon. Bright Abeke, after a traumatic ordeal in captivity.
Hon. Abeke was reportedly released on Monday after spending about 10 days in the hands of his abductors, bringing relief to his family, political associates, and residents of Sapele who had been gripped by tension since his abduction.
The chairman was kidnapped on the night of April 10, 2026, when heavily armed gunmen stormed a hotel along Owumi Road in Sapele and forcefully whisked him away after firing gunshots to disperse people at the scene.
During the attack, a vigilante member was reportedly shot, while the gunmen escaped with the chairman to an unknown destination, triggering widespread fear and a major security response across the area.
In a statement following his release, the Foundation acknowledged the collective efforts of security agencies, government authorities, and concerned Nigerians whose swift and coordinated actions contributed to the positive outcome.
Special appreciation was extended to the Nigeria Police Force and other security operatives for their professionalism, intelligence-driven operations, and unwavering commitment throughout the rescue efforts.
The Foundation also commended the Delta State Government for its active involvement and support, particularly recognizing the leadership of Sheriff Oborevwori for prioritizing the safety of the chairman and ensuring that all necessary measures were taken during the crisis.
It further appreciated community leaders, youth groups, and advocacy voices, including those who consistently called for the chairman’s release, noting that sustained public attention played a crucial role in keeping pressure on those responsible.
While celebrating the safe return of Hon. Bright Abeke, the Foundation urged security agencies and relevant authorities to intensify efforts to curb kidnapping and insecurity, stressing that such incidents must not be allowed to repeat in Delta State or any part of Nigeria.
