PRESS RELEASE
As we mark Nigeria’s 64th Independence Anniversary, it is important to reflect on our journey not just as a nation, but also as a community here in Sapele. Nigeria’s independence on October 1, 1960, brought hope and the promise of self-governance. For Sapele, a town with a rich history and vibrant culture, the years since independence have offered opportunities for growth, development, and unity. We celebrate today with a deep sense of pride in our contributions to the broader Nigerian story.
Sapele, like Nigeria, has had its share of challenges and achievements. Over the years, our people have been resilient in the face of economic and social hurdles. As part of Delta State, Sapele has benefitted from the national progress in areas like telecommunications and education, but we also understand that more work is needed to address issues such as unemployment, infrastructure decay, and poverty that still plague our communities.
Our local economy remains a vital part of Delta State and Nigeria at large. Sapele’s rich industrial history, particularly in timber and rubber, has contributed to the economic strength of the region. Today, we have seen the rise of small and medium-scale enterprises that are driving local growth. However, we must continue to push for policies that support entrepreneurship, especially for our youth, who are the future of Sapele. Creating an environment where businesses can thrive will ensure that Sapele remains a hub for economic activity in the state.
Infrastructure, though has improved drastically, this remains a challenge to us. We are still grappling with erratic power supply, and healthcare facilities need more improvement. As your local government chairman, I want to reassure you that these issues are not being overlooked. Plans are already in motion to address some of these concerns, and we are committed to working closely with our amiable workaholic governor, Elder Sheriff Oborevwori to ensure that Sapele receives its fair share of infrastructural development.
One of the greatest strengths of Sapele is its people. We are a community that values peace, unity, and diversity. Our town is home to a variety of ethnic groups and cultures, and we must continue to foster this spirit of togetherness. In a nation as diverse as Nigeria, Sapele stands as an example of how different groups can live in harmony. We must remain vigilant in preserving this unity, even as we face challenges that could strain our social fabric.
Security, too, is crucial to our progress. Like many parts of Nigeria, Sapele has not been immune to security challenges. While the local government has been working with state and federal agencies to address issues like theft, kidnapping, and communal clashes, these efforts must be sustained and strengthened. I call on all residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement to ensure that Sapele remains a safe and peaceful place to live and work.
As we celebrate 64 years of Nigeriaās independence, let us not forget the importance of investing in our future. Our youth are our greatest asset, and we must continue to prioritize education, skills acquisition, and job creation for them. Here in Sapele, As we focus on the MORE AGENDA to create more opportunities for the youth to harness their talents and contribute meaningfully to the growth of our community. By empowering our young people, we ensure a prosperous and sustainable future for Sapele.
In closing, We want to thank all the residents of Sapele for their steadfastness and commitment to the development of our town. Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day is not just a day to reflect on the past; it is a day to look toward the future with hope and determination. Together, we can build a stronger, more prosperous Sapeleāa Sapele that stands tall in the heart of Nigeria. Happy Independence Day to you all!
